The
rulers of Baroda were great patrons of arts. Raja Ravi Varma, the
celebrated prince artist was invited by the Gaekwads in the last
century and helped him in setting up a studio in the palace estate
where he produced large number of paintings of Gaekwad Family and
Historical scenes which are now displayed in Fatehsingh Museum of
Baroda.
The
faculty of fine arts of Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda,
alma mater of many national and international artists is also located
in this city.
The
Bayer ABS Limited Gallery, one of the largest in India, was inaugurated
on 17th October 2003, is a state-of-the-art gallery having 6,200
sq. ft. centrally air conditioned area for displaying sculptures
and contemporary Indian art works. It is located centrally at ABS
Towers, Old Padra Road, Baroda and is dedicated to art and is not-for-profit
endeavour of Bayer ABS Limited.
To
mark the launch of the Gallery, Uttarayan, an art foundation established
by Mr. Rakesh Agrawal, MD, Bayer ABS Ltd. presented "Mappings"
- a seminal exhibition bringing togather 15 of India's renowned
contemporary artists.
